Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo could still leave the club before the transfer window closes, according to reports in Spain.
The Portugal international was heavily linked with a move away from the Bernabeu at the start of the summer but Real Madrid officials appeared to have talked Ronaldo out of quitting the club.
Manchester United showed initial interest in their former winger but were wary of being used in contract negotiations by Ronaldo.
The 32-year-old was charged with tax evasion in June and explained in court earlier this month that he would like to return to the Premier League.
‘I never had a problem in England… that’s why I would like to go back to England,’ said Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has since been banned for five matches after an altercation with the referee in Madrid’s 3-1 win against Barcelona at the Camp Nou and Spanish newspaper EL Pais claim this has led to the forward questioning his future.
‘For now he’s only focused on work,’ a source of Ronaldo’s entourage told El Pais.
‘He is angry about the five game ban and, while he is working as always with the team, we cannot guarantee if he stays or goes.
‘We will see what will happen between now and August 31.’
